Asian Lettuce Wraps

These Asian lettuce wraps provide a light and flavorful alternative to traditional dishes. Filled with a mixture of minced proteins (such as chicken or pork), crunchy vegetables, and a savory sauce, they are served in fresh lettuce leaves for a refreshing culinary experience.

Ingredients

For the garnish

1 Gen V Boston lettuce

1 red pepper

2-3 carrots

1 small white onion

1 pound of ground turkey or tofu

1 tbsp or 15 ml of minced garlic

Salt and pepper

For the sauce

1 cup of soy sauce

3/4 cup of brown sugar

1 tbsp or 15 ml minced garlic

1 tbsp or 15 ml of rice vinegar

1 tbsp or 15 ml of fresh grated ginger

1 tbsp or 15 ml of sesame oil

1 tbsp or 15 ml of cornstarch

Salt and pepper

Pineapple, green onions, and sesame seeds (optional)

Preparation

For the garnish

  1. Cut the peppers and the carrots into small cubes.
  2. In a pan, heat a drizzle of olive oil and cook the onion and garlic. Add the meat and cook 6-8 minutes (until the meat is no longer pink). Salt & pepper.
  3. Add the vegetables and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the sauce and cook 1-2 minutes.
  5. Serve in the lettuce leaves.

For the sauce

  1. Pour the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, rice vinegar, ginger, sesame oil, a pinch of salt & pepper in a small saucepan and bring to boil.
  2. In a small bowl, dilute the cornstarch in a tablespoon of water, then pour into the boiling sauce. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook until the sauce thickens (3 to 5 minutes).
